The abuse is now realized by the victim as a reality, and there are no more excuses to offer for the abuser's actions. The crossroads are created in both victim and abuser. This is the phase where the victim assesses their situation, resources, and losses from their newly-opened eyes, and the abuser begins to get comfortable in their position of control.
