Children and athletes...one powerful bond. Everyone wants to be "like Mike", or jump like Kobe and LeBron. Our boys wake up daily, excited to wear the jerseys of their favorite athlete's teams, they stare at the televised games as if nothing else is on the programming list...watching every move their hero makes so they can follow in the athlete's footsteps. With the dedication and loyalty our children give to these athletes what else should we expect of our children when the athlete they aspire to reveals that they are gay, racist, or involved in criminal activity? Michael Sam is in the  news for planting a televised kiss on his male lover in reaction to being drafted by the St. Louis Rams. The subsequent reactions, continuous news airings about the kiss and the reactions from others have been fore-fed to our children via uncensored television. Yet, athletes are not being held accountable to their social responsibility obligations. WIth the lax monitoring of content being aired in today's society, and our athletes becoming more bold in their shenanigans, have they become our oppressors biggest weapon of destruction to our youth?
