An eight-year-old student participated in a class essay assignment, and followed the instructions to the core: write about someone you believe is your hero. Very intelligent second-grader Ryleigh Watts of the Cerro Gordo Elementary School in Columbus County, NC did so indeed. She wrote about the person she felt was the biggest hero in her life...Jesus Christ. For her efforts, she received her essay back, marked with a big red "F" and a comment that read, "Remove Jesus, please". Ryleigh Watts parents' are taking action and fighting the school to protect their daughter's constitutional rights to free speech and religious beliefs--stating that the teacher's grade and comments attack both of those. Has the teacher Ryleigh's parents have a point, or is it time to send our teachers back to class to refresh their knowledge of the meaning of our Constitution?
