On June 24, 2010, a Federal Jury ruled that former Newark Police Office Darren Nance had been fired unlawfully in 1996. Unfortunately, this indefensible unlawfully termination was not discovered by any Newark Police Official. Despite the existence of documentary evidence, (in possession of the Newark Police Department) that proved Nance was terminated unlawfully, more than one million dollars in scarce tax dollars was wasted on legal fees defending the unlawful termination. Still, the City Administration was willing to spend additional depleted tax revenue to pay legal fees to keep Darren Nance from returning to the Newark Police Department. Finally, on Wednesday February 16, 2011, the Newark Municipal Council passed a resolution (sponsored by Councilman Ronald Rice Jr.) to return this honest, innocent, and dedicated police officer back to the police department. On Thursday February 24, 2011, at 6:00 PM Darren Nance will be our guest. He will share with the listeners his nearly fourteen year battle for justice. The members of the Newark Municipal Council should be commended for finally taking prudent action to end this nightmare for Darren Nance, and to halt the ridiculous waste of scarce tax resources.
