Philadelphia Police Inspector Carlos Daniel Castro was arrested by federal authorities for extortion and bribery. According to the indictment, the police inspector wanted to hire a collector to use threats of violence to collect $150,000.00 for a debtor. Inspector Castro, who is the commander of the traffic division, had hoped to be the next Police Commissioner. Despite claims of reforms to stamp out police corruption, the Philadelphia Police Department has had several publicized acts of serious criminal misconduct by its members. On Thursday December 2, 2010, at 6:00 Pm, we will discuss the entrenched systemic corruption plaguing the Philadelphia Police Department.
