My special guest this week is Mr. Steve Morton, the President of Visions East, the inventor and patent holder of robotic painting systems for marine vessels. The plans for the patented system were stolen by a former Vice president of his company who went to work for a competing foreign company that also happens to be an approved defense contractor and thaty currently has contracts to paint several newly constructed U.S. Navy ships. Mr Morton pursued the case in federal civil court only to have federal judge Marsha Cook dismiss the case after refusing to allow Mr. Morton to call any witnesses who could prove the allegations (who were sitting in the courtroom) other than himself. Why wouldn't this federal judge allow an American citizen to call witnesses to priove his allegations against a foreign company? Was there some sort of fix in on the case? Undeterred, Mr. Morton filed a criminal complaint with the FBI charging the former Vice president of the company with theft of private computer files. Mr. Morton stayed in contact with the FBI agent in charge of the case for about 3 years and said the FBI was making good progress with the Justice Department moving forward towards a prosecution. After Barack Obama took office in 2009 and Eric Holder became the Attorney General, things changed.  The FBI agent told Mr. Morton that the new Assistant Attorney General in charge of the prosecution of the case contacted him and told him to close the case as she was not interested in prosecuting it. Follow ups by Mr. Morton with Congressmen and US Senators resulted in conflicting information on whether the case is open or closed.
