Call in to speak with the host
Today's guest is Writer, Speaker, and Poet Mary McManus.
When Mary McManus was diagnosed with post polio syndrome, a "progressive neurological disease" in December of 2006 she thought her life was ending. But just like the caterpillar, it was only the beginning. Mary's diagnosis was a wake up call that it was time for heal to her life from a lifetime of disconnecting her mind from her body as a way to survive paralytic polio at the age of 5 and severe childhood trauma at the hands of an alcoholic father.
Today Mary is a 2009 Boston Marathon Finisher, an inspirational poet, having authored three books of inspirational poetry and practices yoga and meditation. Her most recent book, "Songs of Freedom:Poems From a Healing Odyssey", inspired by her yoga practice and body work sessions, takes the reader on her journey of transformation out of the muck and mire of trauma and being a prisoner in her own body to a place in her soul of love, light, happiness, peace and ultimately freedom. Mary is embracing the gifts of her challenges as she begins yoga teacher training to help others heal their lives. You can learn more about Mary at www.marymcmanus.com.
