West End String Band is an Americana/Folk/Bluegrass band formed in 2008. Charlie and Kathy McDaniel, along with Jim Rollins were founding members of the group. Matt Purinton joined the band on mandolin around 2012, with Brian VanAntwerp rounding out the sound in late 2015 on fiddle.
In Sept of 2017, Jim Rollins was killed in a tragic automobile accident, which left the band heartbroken. However, they were determined to continue to publish quality music with a slightly different vibe.

WESB plays locally as a 4 -piece band, often bringing in Jared McEntire to add the bluegrass feel with his banjo.Cousins Charlie and Jared are have shared the stage in the Western NC Band Hickory Flat.

Charlie McDaniel, guitar and vocals, moved to the upstate area about 20 years ago from Rutherford County, N.C. He was a member of the popular regional band, Hickory Flat, for over 20 years. Hickory Flat brought home a top 10 finish in the SPGMA bluegrass band world championship. Charlie’s soulful singing puts the blues in bluegrass.

After moving to Greenville, Charlie met his wife-to-be Kathy. She grew up singing American traditional songs with her father in Northwestern Ohio. As a percussionist in high school, she won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for piano. After going to bluegrass jams and shows with Charlie, she decided to take up a new instrument. Kathy’s perfect timing and true love for the music made the bass a great choice. She anchors the group with her rock- solid timing and harmony vocals.

Matt Purinton, of Six Mile, SC, adds his unique mandolin and deep rich baritone to the West End String Band sound.

Brian VanAntwerp is the most recent addition to the band, providing sizzling fiddle and vocal harmonies.

West End String Band has released 3 CDs, the latest, All Night Long, featuring the 5- piece sound and feel which the band has evolved into throughout the years
