James Marvel has hits in many genres of music including: Pop, Country and Inspiration Gospel. . At the young age of 16, Marvel scored a release on the national label U.S.A. Records which is out of Chicago. In the late 60s he recorded the Solid Gold Hit “Love Can Make You Happy” on Warner Brothers with the group, Mercy which sold a million records by July of '69.  They topped billboard with Elvis, Sinatra, and the Beatles and did shows with stars Tommy James and The Shondells, Frankie Valli, The Cowsills and many others.
James re-recorded the Mercy classic, Love Can Make You Happy in 2011, setting a chart record by being one of only 4 major acts to ever come back with a Billboard or Cashbox Top 10.  This Solid Gold classic hit #4 with this re-make.
“Chubby Checker did it with “The Twist.” Neil Sedaka with “Breaking Up is Hard to Do,” and Marvell with “Love Can Make You Happy” – Bruce Elrod, President of Cashbox Magazine.
 In the mid-90s, he came out with a string of Christian Country Gospel hits under the name Marvell. 

Marvell has worked with Willie Nelson and designed collector jewelry for country greats such as Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. He continues to record and currently has many songs that are being aired internationally. Marvell has appearances on several international Gospel TV networks including TBN and Gospel Music Today.

His YouTube channel  features a made -for- television documentary about his life and Marvell's classic composition "Prophecy".

"Love Can Make You Happy" (April 1969,) reached over one million sales on July 15 and was awarded a gold record by the R.I.A.A., Written by band member and singer Jack Sigler, Jr.and today in 2019 has sold at least 3 million copies.
