Interview with Cathy Travis

Topics of conversation:

  • Recounting experience on Capitol hill, September 11, 2001
  • Chaos and emotions, fears and uncertainty
  • Days after the Pentagon and Twin Towers were hit
  • Working at and living near The Target

Cathy Travis began writing as a little girl. After college, she went to Washington D.C. to work on Capitol Hill for twenty-five years as a communications director, senior advisor, and political consultant for various Members of Congress until her early retirement in 2007. A native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Travis graduated from Arkansas State University and resides on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Since she left Congress, she has written two novels and several works of non-fiction. Today’s topic: her digital book, “Target Sitting,” the inside story of life on Capitol Hill during the 9-11 and Anthrax attacks there, and all the days and traumas that followed.

Minutes before the plane hit the Pentagon on the morning of September 11, 2001, Cathy and her Congressman walked to the Capitol for a press conference titled: Is America Prepared for future Military Threats?
