Robert Adanto reveals the life of Iranian women through the vision of Iranian artists within and outside of Iran.  To the western world, their lives have been reduced to stock images of the veil, the hostage crisis, the revolution of 1979 and the uprisings taking place today. But the plight of women is not so easily explained. He explores tradition and modernity, the dual nature of Iranian women. The artists try to define themselves through their work while using the canvas as a way to express themselves in a censored environment in an ever-globilized and computerized society. This film opens up a unique view also of the often forgotten past of Iran before 1979 and how much has changed especially in the lives of women.
