Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." Gen 2:18 As we carefully examine this passage, we see that God is determined to make for Adam a wife. One who would be an extension of him. He put Adam into a deep sleep, then extracts a rib from his body, and builds a woman from it. This act was a visual representation of Christ and the church. As we have observed, in typology, Adam was a picture of Christ and the woman was a picture of the church. As God put Adam into a deep sleep, Christ likewise was put to sleep through death by crucifixion. As Eve was made from Adam's side (rib), so the church was made from the cleansing stream of water and blood that ran from Christ's side. "......upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. . Matt.16:18 Adam spoke, "This time, this is bone of my bones ; flesh of my flesh, this one shall be called woman because out of man this one was taken." (Gen 2:23) 'This time' indicates that the animals paraded before man were not suitable for Adam, they could not meet the standard of true companionship, conversation or intimacy, he could only give them names to determine their course in life on earth. 'This time,' also indicates that the woman built from him and of him, and was the only one suited for him and could become one with him.
