Christ is our example or model. As we partake Him, He reconstitutes our being into His image. Another way of expressing this is, you truly become what you eat. When Christ is our spiritual food the flesh loses its dominance and declares war against our spirit. If we are not vigilant in our pursuit of Christ our appetite will crave and long for things outside of Him. The children of Israel in the wilderness give clear example of this. They never entered into the rest of God (Canaan, known as the promised land and is a typology of Christ our rest) and wondered in the wilderness for 40 years. I Cor. 10:1-12 1 For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 and did all eat the same spiritual food; 4 and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ. There is a strong warning implied here to New Testament believers using as a type or figure the lives of the children of Israel as they journey from Egypt to the promised land. It is as if the writer (Paul) is pleading with the readers (then and now) of this epistle to pay close attention to what is being said, lest the same costly mistake made by Israel is repeated through ignorance. So let’s look more closely at the solemn warning given here through types and figures. After taking the Passover (Christ the Lamb in entirety) Ex 12: 8-13 the children of Israel begun their journey (the Christian race).
