Dr Emmett Velten wrote the book with Albert Ellis on today's most popular and widely used therapies in mental health. It's called REBT, a humanistic, practical, action-oriented therapy originated by Albert Ellis in 1955. It was the first of the cognitive behavior therapies (CBTs). All of these therapies say that how we think and what we believe — our attitudes — are crucial to how we feel and how we act.

REBT emphasizes our
*ultimate responsibility for our emotions and actions;
*ability to change and grow beyond the past by focusing on the present and future;
*power to choose and construct helpful new habits as alternatives to current self-defeating patterns.
*puts more emphasis on developing a workable philosophy of life;
*focuses more on the here and now and where you’d like to go instead of where you’ve been
