Born to drug-addicted parents, his biological father sentenced to 17 years in prison when he was 4 years old, and in and out of foster homes from the age of 4, Montoya felt he never had a father figure until he was adopted at 8 years of age.
Even then Montoya admits "I carried a lot of baggage". He was kicked out of every school in the district from the age of 8 to 13, and at 15 was sentenced to18 months in a youth detention facility in the Nevada desert.
Today Montoya holds two degrees, with honors, in Science; is the Director of the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club, and is a former board member of For A Child's H.E.A.R.T., Inc.
