What are Educational Units that we have now added to our certification process (in replace of electives)?

In many professions, after obtaining their degree, a person is must do continuing education on an ongoing basis in order to maintain their status in that profession.  While we do not require our students to do anything after certification, at The Healing Arts Learning Organization we value the need for continuing education.  We value it so much that we have used elements of it and incorporated it into our certification process as - EDUCATIONAL UNITS!  An Educational Unit is a "point" you will obtain by attending other trainings that will help grow your birth business.  One Educational Unit is granted for every two hours of additional learning you participate in.  (The total number of educational units required for certification can be found on the Doula Training page.  A student can use a maximum of 6 educational units per topic to count toward certification.)

Use this opportunity to help complete your education in areas you feel you need more knowledge, obtain training in areas that will help provide additional income streams that compliment your birth business or to gain knowledge in new topics of interest that will make you a well-rounded doula after certification.  Don't have previous business experience?  Didn't breastfeed yourself?  This requirement is a great chance to take courses that will not only customize your training to your unique needs, but also qualify toward your certification!  Search your area to find what might be available, as this will be a great opportunity to make connections in the community.

Let's use this broadcast to brainstorm some ideas of what you can use as an Educational Unit!
