Carter G Woodson, The Mis-Education of the Negro, African History and You.

The voice and teachings of Carter G Woodson paved the way, for what is present day recognitions of Black History. It serves as a reminder to not forget and to Honor those who have made contributions to our consciousness as a people. However, was that only what he wanted us to recognize? The intention of Dr Woodson has never been to dictate or limit the exploration of the Black experience, but to bring the to attention the important developments that merit emphasis.

It is urgent that we take a closer look at ourselves and motives even as we take part in Black History recognitions. It is time to escalate the much needed shift, towards the emancipatory purpose of education and what Black History truly encompasses. Not just the often viewed characterization of the African American past as a result of the trans Atlantic slave trade. Our history encompasses the reality and significance of life of African Peoples which hold the connections to our past and paradigms to our current day education and self awareness. Self Determination, Liberation, Interdependence and Empowerment are but a few points that reflect the outcomes of what corrective education can produce. Re-Education of the Negro is for those willing to acknowledge and embrace the knowledge of their own History, Philosophies, Literature, Spirituality...

The merits of our accomplishments must be emphasized in Complete System of Education. and Knowledge of Self. Join this conversation as we further our experience and awareness.
