The Harambee Connection is the voice for Umoja. Join us as we converse with Mr. George L. Garrow, Jr., Esq., executive director of Concerned Black Men – National Organization (CBM), also a founding member of the 2025 Campaign for Black Men and Boys. The 2025 Campaign for Black Men and Boys is a national collaborative effort of several organizations and individuals. The mission of the 2025 Campaign is to collaboratively develop and implement an initiative for the educational, social, emotional, physical, spiritual, political and economic development and empowerment of Black men and boys in the United States. A key fact undergirding this work is the vision of an America that is much different – better – for Black boys becoming 18 years of age in 2025 than what Black men currently see and experience. George and other members of CBM have worked with 32 U.S. cities to tutor, mentor and provide various enrichment programs for thousands of children of all ages, including school-based programs and programs to help parents increase their skills and resources to help their children become successful young adults. The 2025 Campaign asserts, “Standing on the shoulders of our ancestors’ legacy of struggle as well as our contemporary need for self-determination and community responsibility, we are determined to improve the quality of life for Black men and boys. . . The time has come to get beyond debate and to implement bold solutions that focus on Black men and boys.”
