How important is it to be best friends with your significant other?

Do you think husband and wife should be best friends? I see a lot of my married friends saying their husband is their best friend. I have been married for 5 years now, but I don't think my husband is my best friend. He is my husband. My best friend has been my best friend since 2nd grade. Sometimes I feel like women just say that to make their relationship sound better than what it is. What are Your thoughts?
