John Chapter 17 is the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus. Jesus prayed the prayer the night he was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, and arrested by the chief priests and elders and brought him before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin Council to put him to death.
The prayer he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemene while his disciple slept has 3 parts. The first part of the prayer, verses 1 thur 5, Jesus prays for himself. The second part he prays for the 12 disciples, verses 6 thur 19. And the third part, verses 20 thur 26, he prays for the Christians to come into the Church during the Church Age.
