Thanks for the show. It's nice to know there are people that are like-minded and taking action.

Finite is finite, isn't it? It must peak being finite.

The Georgia Street Community Gardens
2/12/2010 7:52 PM UTC
Correct. Mark Covington.
Thank you!!!
What is the date this year?

How is your organization doing with allotments? They are not nearly as extensive here as in places like Korea and Europe, particularly Britain.
2/12/2010 7:49 PM UTC
What does the city need to do in response to chickens besides simply allow them? Are they going to clean the coops?
2/12/2010 7:48 PM UTC
But what of people who really do not have extra money?
Right. How do you get change at the city government level. We have people in planning supportive of all these things, but they are not the decisionmakers
2/12/2010 7:47 PM UTC
People don't like change, and more so, have no idea what is coming.
2/12/2010 7:46 PM UTC
Chickens are still illegal here in Detroit, too. Lots of guerrilla chicken raising going on.
2/12/2010 7:45 PM UTC
It's the roosters, if you ask me. And maybe the Avian Flu stuff.
2/12/2010 7:44 PM UTC
and ducks
Would probably include kimchi, I'd think.
2/12/2010 7:43 PM UTC
Pickling at 4.5+. Is that pH?
2/12/2010 7:39 PM UTC
There are hundreds of gardens and thousands of people involved.
The Garden Resource Program Cooperative runs classes, and provides resources to local gardeners in Dttroit.

Permaculture and Resilience Initiative - Detroit (PRI-De). We're running permculture design certificate coures in Detroit.
2/12/2010 7:37 PM UTC
Since noone is here, can I plug our program in Detroit?
2/12/2010 7:36 PM UTC
What was that URL?
2/12/2010 7:32 PM UTC
Aquaponics.
2/12/2010 7:31 PM UTC
Is nobody listening? No commenters...
2/12/2010 7:29 PM UTC
Agreed. Localization, self-reliance, sustainability, community, Resilience vs. efficiency.
2/12/2010 7:28 PM UTC
Good point, but WE must become the government. A government of Mr and Mrs Smiths, no?
Katrina is a good example of the natural process, but what about a city like Detroit that has lost more population and more housing, by far, all due to economic decisions, i.e. profit motive?
2/12/2010 7:27 PM UTC
A republic actually makes it harder and slower to initiate such programs.
2/12/2010 7:26 PM UTC
Yes, a great film and story. The thing to keep in mind is the nature of the government.
2/12/2010 7:25 PM UTC
Well, it will come back, but possibly without us.
2/12/2010 7:24 PM UTC
With the major problems we face, how do they get met by the people that legislated these problems into existence?
2/12/2010 7:23 PM UTC
I think you are raising an excellent point: Who are the leaders, really? How do we become the leaders?
