Candid Interview with Author and Lyrical Poet Charron Monaye

“Charron Monaye”, was born June 29, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Cherylyn and Michael. While growing up, she never dreamed of being an acclaimed writer, but merely a Pediatrician because she loved children. However, being a child that wasn’t very vocal on expressing how she felt or what she was going through, she begin writing poems to release her inner tension, anger, or pain to eliminate from getting into serious trouble. After sharing some of her pieces with her mother, she was encouraged to enter a poetry contest with The National Library of Poetry and in 1993, her poem “Alone”, which focused on homelessness in our “society”, was selected for publication in their book, “Tears of Fire”. This honor made Charron embrace her new given talent and she started writing about everything that affected her directly or indirectly. After this accomplishment was advertised and promoted within the United States of America, Ms. Joanne Evans of the United Negro College Fund, asked her to perform this piece at the UNCF Telethon’s Awards Banquet.
