Henry River Mill Village…
Built in 1904 by Michael Erastus Rudisill the mill and village were built on a 1,500-acre tract, location chosen for its hydro power potential. The mill later burned in 1977.
The Mill Village has a wonderful as well as a dark history. Mill workers and their families thrived in the village. As with many mill villages scattered around the South, mills provided a living for locals. The villages also housed some unsavory characters like Boyce Liverett.
On Aug. 21, 1966:
Locals have trespassed on the property for decades searching for ghost or spirt activity. Some locals have stolen from the property while others vandalized the property. Only after being chosen as the site for the movie “The Hunger Games” as district 12 in 2012 did the village become nationally known.
