Two weeks from today our Carlsbad families will receive their absentee ballots and will begin contemplating on the political issues. The most important question for this election is: Whom should we elect to be our next Mayor now that Mayor Bud Lewis is stepping down after 24 years of service. To provide you with more information I have invited the two top Mayoral candidates to be my guests for this week’s program.********** My first guest is Council Member Matt Hall, who was first elected to office in 1994. Mr. Hall is a business owner and prior to his election to the Council he had served the Carlsbad citizens as a Planning Commissioner. He has also been a member of the Design Review Board, Village Redevelopment Committee and Chamber of Commerce. Council Member Hall has served on the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), The Encina Wastewater Board and the California league of Cities. ********* Our second guest is Council Member Keith Blackburn who was elected to office in 2008. Prior to being elected Sergeant Blackburn served Carlsbad residents for 21 year as a police officer. He retired in 2008. He’s also a founding partner of the Carlsbad Company Stores (now known as the Premium Outlet) and the president of the Blackburn Foundation, a charitable foundation which donates to local charities.********* I’ll ask the two gentlemen to speak about their families and their backgrounds and then we will delve into the tough topics such as: the pension system, proposition G, Alga Swim Complex, the future of our city as we come to the end of our development cycle, what does it mean to be fiscally conservative, and many other issues. Please email me your questions for Council Members Hall and Blackburn at farrah.douglas@gmail.com. I look forward to these two interviews.
