They don't come with a button with words that read “Push in Case of Emergency.” Like a garden that needs constant attendance, so does raising children. Your children are your responsibility; not the worlds. Make sure they are safe, healthy, comfortable, educated & disciplined. People find disciplining the toughest. We see the lack of discipline in the youngest of children and almost on a daily basis. Children are not a job or a privilege they are a blessing. Take care of your blessing. Establish family laws and stick to them. Laws are the foundation of successful parenting. It shows children the behavior that is expected of them. Integrate house rules and be consistent. Say what you mean and mean what you say. They are applied at all times and must be adhered to-regardless of where they are or what they are doing. Rules should be easy to follow and memorized. Discipline rather than punishment – Discipline teaches a child how to act. It is directed at what the child has done, makes sense to them and gives them a chance to correct their mistake. Punishment tells the child that they are bad, makes no sense to them, usually has nothing to do with what the child did wrong & does not tell them how to correct their mistake.
