You want your audience to savor every word that flows from your lips. This is not a race nor the Indi 500 but more like a cruise liner with a slue of happy and comfortable passengers enjoying all the amenities the ship has to offer. A piece should be no longer than 3 minutes. You will begin to lose the attention of your audience the longer your poetry is. Your words are only half of your performance the other half is theatrical. You are reciting your feelings and feeling what you are reciting. Put your paper down and move from behind the podium. Step out and come a little closer to your audience. Now speak from memory.
