Faith is opposed to reason. Faith is simply a positive assumption. Faith concerns questions which cannot be settled by evidence. Faith knows purely that things turn out well because of Gods promise to us. Faith is an act of trust. Faith causes change as it seeks a greater understanding of God and without faith there is no belief and like a child who has difficulty in pleasing his parents because he has lost faith in them so it will be impossible to please God if we have no faith in Him. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him, for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. Abraham obeyed God and left Chaldea. Noah was warned by God and by faith he prepared the Ark. Faith in God lead Abraham, though he was old and Sarah, though she was barren, to conceived and have a child. Faith in God moved Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Faith in God gave Job strength. Faith in God allowed Peter to walk on water. Faith in God is what led the disciples to leave their jobs and Preach the word of God. Why faith, because it works.
