The recent announcement of a water settlement between the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations and the State of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City claims to resolve a dispute that has led to two lawsuits being filed. The settlement involved Sardis Lake, and the Kiamichi, Muddy Boggy and Clear Boggy watersheds.
The information regarding this settlement was released with this website: https://www.waterunityok.com/ . A "Gag Order" prohibiting the atorneys from releasing information had been pending. The Choctaw Nation website list dates for community meetings:  , however, this morning at tribal council, the settlement was on the agenda for a vote! Questions arose about why vote now if there is to be community meetings later where Chahta citizens can have an input on the settlement. Why not delay the vote until afterwards.
If there are to be community meetings, then we need to be prepared to ask our questions. Since the council has voted, does it feel like there is a big rush to get it done and over with? I tried talking with Michael Burrage, the attorney, but he would only respond in a way that he was telling me what I was suppose to think. I would expect a straight answer when it comes to compromising the integrity of our sovereignty. So check in with us tomorrow. If you are interested in being a guest tomorrow (8/14, 3 PM Central), send me a message with your phone number.
