J Mocha is an urban Hip Hop & R&B artist with a little soul. Recently in an interview with Sound Initiative’s instructor Michele Thomas J Mocha stated that “I honestly couldn’t see myself doing anything else but music.

By the age of four he was walking around the house carrying his boom box singing every song that came on to the radio. Growing up in a rough neighborhood on the east side of the city, it was easy to be influenced and lead in the wrong direction but one of his favorite quotes “The first step towards success is taken when you refuse to be a captive of the environment in which you first find yourself” by Mark Caine helped him become one of the chosen ones to make it out. Raised in both places Pine Bluff, AR and Chicago, IL he had a different outlook on life. Initially influenced by early-1990s urban Hip Hop, R&B and Soul, he progressed rapidly while discovering another talent which was dance.  By the age of twelve he went on to become the dance coordinator of his school band up until he graduated, receiving best male dancer his senior year. Growing up with friends who had the same passion as him he found his self recording in the studio by the age of fifteen. After high school he decided to make Chicago his residence. There he studied at Music Industry Workshop (MIW) working with Grammy Award winning music producer Ricco Lumpkins A.K.A. Vet Boi as his mentor. He currently released an EP titled Deal or No Deal available on ITunes now! The story of this up and coming legend is still yet to come. He could be contacted at thejmocha@gmail.com . Y
