Sis JayVon Muhammad- Building Black Health Equity

Peace and Black Power Family,

Welcome to another episode of Do Tha Knowledge Radio. The place where Knowledge is Born. I am your host Knowledge Born Allah. This is our Revolutionary SUN day episode and we are honored to have in our midst the magnificent Warrior mind of our divine sister who comes to us in the righteous name JayVon Muhammad.

My name is JayVon Muhammad and I am the CEO of the Marin City Health and Wellness Centers , a group of Federally Qualified Health Centers (public health centers) with the Mission of Black Health Equity.  We work with poor people, particularly low income Black people who live in public housing and/or are homeless.  Every year we provide over 15,000 primary medical, dental, mental health and addiction visits.  I am also a midwife, and we are the first and only State Licensed and Nationally Accredited birth center in the County.  We are working hard to recruit Black leadership and providers. Black women have the worst pregnancy outcomes.  Our birth center, designed to address this disparity is having wonderful outcomes.  As an alternative to medication and suspension/expulsion from school, we have preventative behavioral health programs for middle and high school Black boys and girls, and every year we take them out of their neighborhoods to see themselves all over the Country and the World.   We respect our patients choice when they decide not to immunize their babies, or themselves. We are working hard to use our resources to help build our community. Join us this Revolutionary SUN day 11-5-17 2PM EST by calling in live to phone number 515-605-9360 and press 1 with your questions or comments.
