Dr. Akhila Kosaraju, Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, returned from a visit to AFRICOM HQ. Unlike existing commands, AFRICOM's goal is "war prevention rather than war fighting." As such, it offers an unprecedented opportunity to advance Military Health System’s humanitarian assistance and global health diplomacy to the front lines. During her visit to AFRICOM she talked with leadership about these opportunities and some of the challenges posed by this expanded focus on healthcare.
