Doctors of the USA welcomes Dr. Jamie Watkins, Team Physician for the United States Ski Team, to talk about how physicians help athletes prepare for major competitions.

Dr. James “Jamie” Watkins is Chief of Surgery at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he holds an appointment at the University of Colorado, Denver. He was previously on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and served as a burn and trauma surgeon at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He holds degrees in Math (A.B., Dartmouth) and Statistics (M.Sc., Oxford), and he received his M.D. from Columbia P&S in New York. He trained at Beth Israel (Harvard, Boston) and did a fellowship in trauma and critical care at Shock Trauma (U. Maryland, Baltimore). Jamie is a Team Physician for the United States Ski Team, for whom he was a site visitor for the upcoming Sochi Olympic Winter Games. Jamie has also been Physician in Residence at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He was formerly with McKinsey, the consultancy, where he helped establish the firm’s Middle East Office and served government clients – he continues to serve healthcare entities in the GCC, and has worked in Mumbai for Operation Smile. Jamie remains interested in mathematics and is a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Finance at MIT/Sloan.
