Toby Tobias chats with singer/songwriter/guitarist, Steve Welner. Steve is founder of The WellDiggers a New York based alt-country, roots-rock band.  Steve was nominated as one of the top 5 songwriters to the Austin, Tx based, "Freeform American Roots" (FAR) charts in 2008 for the album, "Stole Away, The Billy Sessions".  Along with Steve, the band includes Rich Lanahan, Mike Meehan, Jack Gabis, Don Gabis, Mike Leuci, and Eric Peters. Running the gamut from traditional folk, blues, and bluegrass, to crunchy, twangin' electric rock, The WellDiggers can most accurately be described as fitting within the wide umbrella of, "Americana" style music.  Some of the artists that they have shared the stage, or recorded with include Pete Seeger, Levon Helm, Graham Parker, Peter Rowan, Eric "Roscoe" Ambel (Steve Earle, Del Lords, Yayhoos), The Silos, Marah, Chip Robinson (Backsliders), Keith Christopher (Georgia Satellites), and Rob Arthur (Peter Frampton); to name a few.
