Literary Diva Presents: Literary Journey! Kate Chopin!

Join us as we continue our literary journey with American novelist and short-story writer Kate Chopin. A St. Louis native, she began writing after becoming a widow. Kate was writer of many short stories which were published widely in major publications. However, she is most famous for her literary works titled: "The Awakening." The novel is about the sexual and artistic awakening of a young mother who abandons her family, against the confines of New Orleans social conventions and gender assumptions. Causing a fire storm during it's publication, it was met with harsh criticism because of its treatment of feminine sexuality. It was rediscovered in the 1960s and has since become a standard of American literature, appreciated for its sophistication and artistry.
