Join us as we continue our literary journey with author and business man Charles Chesnutt. A talented man with a true voice for writing. Much of his life was spent as an educator and a business man and of course being a literary figure. His most famous works include "The Goophered Grapevine, Conjure Woman, The Wife Of His Youth And Other Stories Of The Color Line, The House Behind The Ceaders and The Marrow Of Tradition and his final novel The Colonel's Dream." As he continued to write for publications of his time period he was overshadowed by writers of the harlem renaissance, and eventually fell off the scene. However in 1928 he became the recipient of the "Singarn Medal" by the NAACP for his pioneering work on behalf of the struggle of African Americans. Today Chesnutt is recognized as a major innovator in the tradition of African American fiction, an important contributor to the deromanticizing trend in post-Civil War southern literature and a singular voice among turn-of-the-century realists who treated the color line in American life. Tune in as we take a literary journey with Charles Chesnutt.
