Good morning and welcome to Get Healthy Now with Denise Thomson, Certified Health and Wellness Coach, nurse, fitness trainer, educator, speaker and published best selling author.
Last week I spoke about the importance of knowing our BMI for health reasons. It must have fallen unto listening ears because I was asked: "How can we figure out our health progress without a scale? I am afraid to step on a scale, it gets me depressed, it won't be able to show my weight...?"
There are 2 easy formulas to remember that help you assess where you are regarding your health, that is BMI, weight, skinfold test, etc. related, though all these have an impact on your overall health, such as high BP, blood sugars, cholesterol, stress, heart attack, stroke, Rx medications...
Formula 1 with scale:
Weight x 703 / inches squared = BMI
Formula 2 without scale:
(BMI/703) x (Height in inches x height in inches) = weight in pounds
Height in inches x height in iches is the same as height in inches squared.

Last week I gave you the Formula for the Caliper Test to get your BMI. Recap:
Women:
BD (Body Density) = 1.0994291 - 0.0009929(Z) + 0.0000023(Z2) - 0.0001392(age)
where Z = Sum of Tripecps, Thigh and Suprailliac Skinfolds in mm.
Men:
BD = 1.10938 - 0.0008267(Y) + 0.0000016(Y2) - 0.0002574(age)
where Y = sum of Chest, Abs and Thigh skinfolds in mm
Once you have established your numbers for height, age, you just need to add up the numbers in mm of the skin folds you measure.
