Jesus Is the Light for Your Life, Part 7

TEXT: John 8:12-27

D.L. Moody said, "One of two things you must do; you must either receive Him or reject Him. You receive Him here and He will receive you there; you reject Him here and He will reject you there. If you receive Him it will be well; if you reject Him and are lost it will be terrible."

Have you ever been in a situation where you are trying to explain something to someone, and no matter how much you explain it to them, they still act as if they do not get it. Sometimes, people continue asking questions, not because they don't understand, but because they do not want to accept the truth.

Thus far, the Jewish religious leaders have failed in their attempts to discredit Jesus. None of the negative things they have said to Him or about Him have stuck. Their attempts to sideline him have repeatedly failed. They are stuck, and they know it. So, they continue asking questions hoping that they can somehow throw him off.

The question they circle back around to is "Who art thou?" 'Who are you?' They are struggling to reconcile their own best case scenario -- with Jesus turning out to be a mere man who works some miracles and has some crazy, unorthodox ideas -- with Jesus' actual words which claim that He is so much more. They can't get a read on Jesus, not because He is unreadable, but because He does not fit within their narrow religious metric system. Jesus is much greater than their laws and traditions; in fact, He is turning that system on its head.
