1 John 2:15: "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."
In our last lesson, we learned about the world system which the devil has set up in opposition to God's rule in the earth. The devil uses this system to entangle humans and keep them from seeing themselves as sinners in need of a Savior. The Lord Jesus came into the world to deliver us from the power of Satan. Though He was in the world, He was not of it; that is, He was not a part of Satan's world-system. He said in John 14:30, "the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me (that is, hath no power over me)." Satan did come to tempt Jesus, but Jesus overcame him and his world-system. Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of this world if He would only fall down and worship him, but Jesus refused this temptation. Instead, He chose to go to the cross, where He died for our sins. On the third day, God raised Jesus up from the dead and gave Him all power in Heaven and in earth. God made Him to be the Head of a new creation. Jesus Christ not only overcame Satan's world-system, but He also delivered us from it. The Bible says that Jesus "gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father."
