Jesus Christ -- The Lamb of God (Part 2) (Onward Christian Soldiers #32)

The Bible says in John 1:29: "John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

Each of Jesus' names tells us something about who He is and what He has done for us. In our last Onward Christian Soldiers discipleship class, we began looking at Jesus Christ as "the lamb." When John the Baptist first saw Jesus he said, "Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world." When we come to the last book of the Bible, we find that it is "the Lamb" who is sitting on the throne in Heaven. What does this name mean?

To understand why Jesus Christ is called "the Lamb of God", we must go to the Old Testament. Throughout the Old Testament there are many "types" of salvation. A "type" is something which pictures or illustrates a spiritual truth. For example, when a person offered a lamb as a sacrifice for his sins, it was a picture that showed that the Lord Jesus would one day die on the cross for our sins. We have already looked at the type or picture of Adam and Eve and how their story demonstrates that Jesus is the "lamb of God."

The type or picture that we will look at today is the story of Cain and Abel.
