When my father wrote the corresponding letter in the book Letters to Young Black Men, he was sitting in the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Hamden, Connecticut. Besides the library, a good bookstore is his and my next favorite place to be. If we are not careful, we can spend an entire day in a good bookstore. However, when he visited a bookstore or library, there is always one thing that bothered him, however, and that is the conspicuous absence of young black men.
