0146 2010, Fri, Aug 27, Conservative Latino Talk Radio is America's leading conservative talk show from the Latino perspective. Today, Michael Kubosh with Citizens Against Red Light Cameras talks with us about the insidious system which uses the name of police departments, sanctioned by cities, to demand money from people. If it were not a system of revenue collection for a city it would be considered extortion. It is; however, clearly a violation of a citizen's right to due process. One selling point for this was the notion that it would enhance safety but Mr. Kubosh found the cameras were not placed in dangerous intersections but busy ones and not in the poorer sections of town. In fact, according to Kubosh, the cameras have been shown to make intersections MORE dangerous! Interesting also that this system is supported by an out of state company that uses the Houston Police Dept. logo on its bill collection notices, illegal if it were not sanctioned by the city, to intimidate people into paying the bill not legitimately incurred. Mr. Kubosh also shared information that the Texas legislator responsible for putting the enabling legislation forward is now under investigation for ethics as she, Linda Harper Brown allegedly accepted gifts from the company that obtained valuable contracts as a result. I find it interesting that city officials sold this insidious plan with the same "bait and switch" as all politicians: surrender your rights in exchange for security. Mr. Kubosh was successful getting this initiative on the ballot, Nov 2, and his effort is now a campaign. For freedom's sake, help him.
