A columnist describes the dictatorships in Latin America and though there are new & growing dictatorships, there is still hope as polls show a slight majority of Latin Americans prefer democracy. Finally, Lauro discusses the ways that Barry was elected by portraying himself as both radical and, with the help of a entertainment news media, as a "regular guy." But Republicans also failed in that they pushed away the "swing vote" made up of mostly Latinos with their harsh & divisive anti-immigration rhetoric. Now the GOP must seize the initiative to promote immigration reform with economic recovery in mind and promote border security with illegal drugs & crime elimination in mind. The GOP must regain the HOuse & Senate in 2010 by promoting lower taxes, less government regulation & economic growth.
