Jay Interviews Mary Mary McManus Polio Survivor,Author,Boston Marathon Finisher! Mary McManus, polio and post polio survivor, former award winning social worker at the Department of Veterans Affairs, 2009 Boston Marathon Finisher, entrepreneur, inspirational speaker, published poet and an award winner in her 'new life' turned her life around and around to accomplish what most of us only dream of doing in a lifetime. ~Delight yourself in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. ~ Psalm 37:4,5~ February of 2007 as Mary asked God for guidance of what was next in her life, she wrote the poem “Running the Race”. She had no idea as she sat in a leg brace using a cane and at times a wheelchair for mobility that in fact two years later she would cross the finish line of the 2009 Boston Marathon and raise $10,535 for Spaulding Rehab Hospital where she took the first steps on her healing journey. She is now the author of two books of inspirational poetry. Her first book of inspirational poetry, “New World Greetings:Inspirational Poetry and Musings for a New World” was published in December 2007. Her second book, “Set Sail for a New World:Healing a Life Through the Gift of Poetry” was released June 2010. Mary donates 20% of book proceeds to The Salk Institute for Biological Studies and Hope Charitable Trust, a group of dedicated volunteers helping children crippled by polio in remote villages in India to walk again.
