Claire On Sports

I'm a BuckeyeChick who lives and breathes Ohio State football. Actually I love everything about sports in general: football, baseball, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, gymnastics, hockey. You name it and I love it. My first grade teacher, Miss Listiak, said that's all I wrote about in my journal. I was what, six years old and already commentating sports? I grew up and went to college in The Columbus, Ohio and now I live on Long Island. I am a second grade teacher and I love the Buckeyes almost more than I love any other person or thing on Earth. I love to talk about them and this is my chance to share it with you. We can say anything - for and against - The Buckeyes and all teams, all things, football. Let's just talk sports. Call in and talk with Claire on the Air! Say what you want...it's all good with me.

Show Notes

I AM ONLY ONE, BUT I AM ONE. I CAN'T DO EVERYTHING, BUT I CAN DO SOMETHING. AND THAT I CAN DO, I OUGHT TO DO. AND WHAT I OUGHT TO DO, BY THE GRACE OF GOD I SHALL DO!! This is what it said on a plaque inside The Ohio State Buckeyes locker room. Maurice Hall took us on a tour summer of '08. Most beautiful man-made place on Earth!

This show is dedicated to the loving spirit of Stefanie Spielman, wife of Chris Spielman, and a member of the Ohio State University family. **If you listen to the archived show, there is about 5 min. of dead air in the middle when I was supposed to be playing a pretaped interview. I replayed it later in the show. The interview was with Sybil who is in seventh grade in Dublin, OH. She and the other seventh graders raised over 9,000 in just two weeks for Stefanie's funds. Please fast forward through the five minutes of silence. Sorry about that. Stefanie battled cancer for the last 12 years while raising four children and over 6.5 million dollars for cancer research. The inspiring poem below really embodies her spirit. And she did just that. She has touched every life of every person whether you knew her personally, knew of her, or have never even heard her name. I shall be forever grateful to this woman, her spirit, her determination, her giving nature. I would like to dedicate a thirty minute show this week to Stefanie. Please join me. I will give information for how you can make donations in her memory or to honor the important people in your lives. Please call in and share your thoughts. If you can't call in, then email me a comment at claireonsports@gmail.com. Don't miss this show. If you do, please listen to the archived show when you have a half hour to spare. This woman gave countless hours of her life to help every single one of us. Rest in peace Stefanie. Your legacy will live on forever through your spirit and the lives of those you touched, especially your beautiful children and ever-loving husband.

Rest in peace Stephanie.  You have created a legacy that people can admire and aspire to.  Thank you for all you have done to raise awareness about a devastating disease.  Your work will always be remembered and appreciated by those of us who have been touched by cancer.  I don't know anyone who hasn't been.  Thank you for everything.  Your children are in the best hands, second only to yours.  Sincerely,Claire Mahoney

So much to be fired up about this week. Here's the lineup: · Last week I asked the question...Are the punishments being doled out to college football players for flagrant fouls too lenient, too harsh, or just right? This week I'm wondering about athletes at various levels and various sports after the incident with the New Mexico women's soccer player and the ejection of a defensive player from the Chicago Bears on Sunday. · · An update on how this past weekend's at first ever Beat Michigan! Beat Cancer! Race to Cure Ovarian Cancer in Columbus, Ohio · · We will spend some time paying tribute to our country's amazing and inspiring veterans including how the service academies did last week in their football games and how their seasons are shaping up. · · And my favorite part of the show a look back at The Ohio State Buckeyes victory over Penn State last weekend in Happy Valley as well as a look ahead to the Iowa game this weekend. Ohio State goes into this game favored over Iowa who was ranked #4, undefeated, and vying for a BCS bowl berth just less than a week ago. · · We'll take some callers and much more! So, stayed tuned for Claire on Sports this November 12th.

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans, This week's Claire on Sports will air live from 7-8 pm on blogtalkradio.com. I am seeking hot topics. If you have a big question to put out there on the airwaves please email me. I'm thinking everything about Cleveland is big right now. If you come across interesting articles, please forward them to my email (claireonsports@gmail.com). Doug Dunlap has earned an autographed picture of me (Claire on Sports) and Eddie George (Mahoney):). As has my producer...Mr. Walker for sharing their 5 cents and adding great information to my shows. Thanks guys! I'm hear and I'm listening. This week I have 2 guests calling in: Shawn Dodd a high school football coach in the Cleveland area and Ronnie Langella a high school football coach from the Long Island area. We're going to compare the 2 "worlds" as I often think of them. If you've read the book Friday Night Lights (I read it in high school if that gives you any insight into Claire on Sports) It's a good one. Fascinating in fact. It will be part of the discussion perhaps as well. Email me between now and Wed. night your thoughts, topics, articles, etc. Give me anything I can use on the air. Call me Thursday. Remember, this is about all sports. Go Buckeyes! -- Claire Marie Cowardin Mahoney Host of Claire on Sports
