As civic spaces close, what are the latest creative tactics being used to capture and share stories from the ground and mobilize people through storytelling? Despite the civic space restrictions across the world, activists on the ground are using the power of civic storytelling, technology and art to set the agenda, to expose attacks against other activists and to create new civic spaces.

Broadcasting live from Rightscon 2018, show hosts Kara Andrade and Adi Mistry Frost will be speaking to: Omaid Sharifi, co-founder of Artlords, a grassroots, art for social change movement in Afghanistan; Maxence B. Melo, founder of the whistleblowing Tanzanian blogging site, Jamii Forums; and Gemma Mendoza, a journalist and co-founder of Rappler, the online news site based in the Philippines.

During this third episode of Civic Stage, we speak with activists who are using their stories to reach broader audiences and to show how powerful stories can activate change.

Be part of the conversation on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1pm EST during our live broadcast from Toronto, Canada at RightsCon, the world’s leading conference on human rights in the digital age.
