Ska Now and then :The rebirth of Ska

The early sixties saw a musical evolution in Jamaica and the creation of Ska. What is not know is that it was not widely accepted in Jamaica and only gained recognition after the success of Bob Marley in the foreign marketplace. Before Bob there were people like Harry Belafonte and Lord Flea who served as trail blazers to the ska explosion. You had American musicians like Satchmo, Louis Jordon and Ella Fitzgerald who performed some island music in their shows, but it seemed to me, only as a gimmick. Today's show will play some of these recordings of top American artists and theie take on Jamaican music. Also on the show will be the renewed interest of Ska by its new ambassador Richie Stevens.
