Welcome to hot sunny and festive August and Happy Birthday to all the fans and listeners who celebrate in August. To special fans Erma and Omel you can begin to celebrate and we will celebrate right along with you.. Happy Birthday. It's the summer festival in full swing -  Culturama in Nevis, Carnival in the Anguilla, Antigua and the BVI. Take your pick and tell us about the experience. The children of the Virgin Islands are not going to be in a very festive mood because for the first time they go back to school in early August, as early as Monday that is.. Back to school before September is unheard of in these parts and will take a little getting used to. In the midst of all this we will take a pause to say condolences to Omel and family over there in the U.K. Omel lost her mother earlier this week. But we will also have a conversation. So let's talk.

Who said the murder of George Floyd will change police tactics against Black people? Try this one on for size. Aaron Larry Bowman, a Black man was pulled over in a traffic stop for improper lane usage. He ended up with a broken jaw, broken ribs and a gash to his forehead. On Wednesday a federal jury in Louisiana acquitted Jacob Brown, a white state trooper, of violating Bowman's civil rights even though video footage clearly showed Brown pummelling Bowman. Brown described the beating to investigators as pain compliance. Brown has been involved in at least 23 excessive force incidents between 2015 and 2021 most of these cases involved Black people. The Louisiana state troopers did not investigae this incident until almost two years after it occurred. And, this was after an Associated Press investigation which broke the story. Brown's father also state trooper was known for his racist tactics including calling his Black colleagues Niggers and hanging a confederate flag in his office. Racist Culture?
