What is conjure?
Conjure, Conjuration, Root working, hoodoo, and spiritual work are terms that are all used to describe the spiritual practices of African Americans in the American South. Its roots are in former slaves' faith in the Holy Bible, the practices brought with them from ancestral Africa, as well as their use of prayer, candles, incense, roots, and herbs to effect change in the world around them. It is NOT evil, dark, or the devil's work. These are Hollywood's ideas. Conjure is grounded by FAITH, and it is alive and well.
