Are you looking for a better yesterday? Join us and guest Nancy Gershman and hear how Nancy helps her clients through healing dreamscapes after loss.

Nancy Gershman is a prescriptive artist (a term she coined for fine artists co-creating healing, meaning-laden artwork for individuals “stuck” by guilt and regrets in the wake of loss.  Each of her digital photomontages (or “Healing Dreamscapes”) are preferred stories realized with the client, composed of photos, memories and shared dreams -- with only positive associations.

Using photo manipulation software, Gershman re-contextualizes these elements, infusing the new story about the past or future with newfound insights gleaned from therapy, often with a next baby step. By speaking to the emotional brain in a language it understands: sensory images, metaphors and symbols - these highly realistic, wished-for realities restore hope and help us pursue happiness after months or even years in a dark place.

Psychotherapist Bob Neimeyer includes prescriptive photomontage in “Techniques of Grief Therapy: Creative Practices for Counseling the Bereaved”. Other published work has appeared in Annals of American PsychotherapyHektoen International and Advance for Nurses.
