There are about 54 counties, districts, cities, incorporated towns, boroughs, villages and census designated places named after Christopher Columbus. Places like Columbus Ohio and the District of Columbia. Was Columbus a great explorer? Did he discover America? Was he a monster, a plague among the indigenous people he encountered? Are we celebrating the wanton destruction of a civilization?
