The story states in 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed west over the edge of the earth on route to India and stumbled upon or discovered America. Columbus Day is celebrated on the second day of October. There are about 54 counties, districts, cities, incorporated towns, boroughs, villages and census designated places named after Christopher Columbus. Places like Columbus Ohio and the District of Columbia. Was Columbus a great explorer? Did he discover America? Was he a monster, a plague among the indigenous people he encountered? Are we celebrating the wanton destruction of a civilization?
